What sets it apart: the hardware and the software come from the same house - the appliance is built around the software it runs, and the software is updated throughout the product's lifecycle.

What pfSense Plus is

pfSense is a firewall and routing operating system, built on FreeBSD and used by hundreds of thousands of organizations worldwide. pfSense Plus is the commercial edition that runs on Netgate appliances - it comes with the device.

In practice that means firewall, routing, network segmentation, a VPN server, dual-WAN load balancing with automatic failover, DHCP and DNS servers, traffic monitoring and intrusion detection - all in one device, under one management interface.

No annual licensing fees
pfSense Plus is included with Netgate devices with no annual licensing fees. Software updates and TAC Lite are provided under Netgate's lifecycle policy; advanced support plans are available separately.
No per-user pricing
Users, filtering rules and VPN links are not limited and not priced separately. A business growing from ten to fifty employees pays no more for the same device.
No features locked behind add-ons
Segmentation, VPN, intrusion detection and monitoring are part of the system. What the device can do on day one is what it can always do.
